Character Information
*Character Name: Luxord, Number X, the Gambler of Fate
*Character Canon: Kingdom Hearts
*Age: Sometime in his late 20s or early 30s (exact age unknown)
*Race: Nobody
*Timeline/Pull Point: Pretty much just before Sora murders him in KHII

*History: http://kingdomhearts.wikia.com/wiki/Luxord
*Personality: Luxord is elegant, well-spoken, and often difficult to read. He tends to think of all life as a game to be won, each day a roll of the dice. As such, even his words can be game-like: he tends to be quite verbose and difficult to read at times.
Luxord is well aware of his place in Organization XIII as a mere pawn, and unlike many of the other members he does not resent this. To him, his loyalty to the Organization is like a bet: he's betting on the party he believes will win him a heart.
Luxord can be extremely cruel and manipulative in his games when he so wishes. He toys with Sora and Sora's friends in Kingdom Hearts II in much the same way as a cat might play with a mouse. At the same time, to Roxas he is probably the friendliest and most helpful member of the Organization besides Axel, treating Roxas in much the same way an uncle might treat a favorite nephew. Unlike Xaldin, Xigbar, Saix, or even Demyx, Luxord treats Roxas with some measure of respect, giving advice and seeming to try to help the boy along on his journey.
Luxord is the type to never reveal his secrets, to always play his cards close to the chest. Nothing is known about his life before he became a Nobody, and little is known of his real motives (other than his desire to regain his heart).
As a final note, Luxord seems to have a fondness for, or at least respect for, children. In one of his journal entries in 358/2 Days, he mentions that he envies them for their ability to look ahead towards the future without fear, perhaps because they have far less to lose.

*Powers/Abilities: Nobody: Luxord is a Nobody, which in Kingdom Hearts terms means that he has no heart. If one were to parallel this to Transformers, it would be like a Transformer who had no spark, yet still functioned. As such, Luxord is much more emotionally distant than most humans; whether he truly believes himself incapable of feeling anything like other Nobodies is unclear. In any case, Luxord's lack of a heart gives him access to certain abilities and powers. It should also be noted that a Nobody can regain some semblance of a heart over time, if they allow themselves to feel emotions again instead of denying they are even capable of the act; nonetheless, the only known way for a Nobody to be restored to their original state is if both they and their Heartless (a creature born from the darkness in the heart they lost) are destroyed.

Dark Corridors: All Nobodies have the ability to open up portals to a parallel realm called the Realm of Darkness. In this place, they can move rapidly from location to location, essentially teleporting. It does take time to open a Dark Corridor, so this ability is useless for combat, but it is quite handy for getting into places you aren't supposed to be.
In Re-Aligned, I'll be limiting Luxord's Dark Corridor travel to places he's actually been on a single planet; furthermore, it still does take time to travel from place to place through the Corridors, and it is not always safe to do so.

A NOTE ON LUXORD'S OTHER POWERS

In the games, Luxord's powers don't make any goddamn sense. Period. As such, I'm going to be giving him thematic abilities based on his in-game powers, but not exactly adhering to them. Because seriously, just read his Wiki entry: do you really want me to try to emulate that mess in a game? No.

Fair Game: Luxord's weapon, a deck of cards. Luxord can telekinetically control these cards, including changing their size and shape, to attack. He can also allow them to move on their own, letting them float and attack any target he indicates. Luxord can manipulate these cards into being shields, or even hide himself among them.

Gamble: Luxord can gamble on his own combat abilities; if he wins a bet with himself, he can deal massive damage to others. If he loses, he is stunned and takes damage.

Transformation: Luxord can force an opponent to gamble with him; if they win, he is stunned, if they lose, they are transformed into either a card or dice for a time.

Divination: Luxord mentions reading the cards for himself or others a few times in the games; his weapons are also Tarot themed. It is reasonable to assume he knows a few ways of reading the cards, either to know the future or just for fun.

Gambler: Luxord is a master of games, both of chance and strategy unlike the mun, who is terrible, and hopes that other players will forgive an inability to ACTUALLY play chess or poker. It is VERY hard to beat him at such games.

Master of Time: Luxord's element is Time. This renders him highly resistant to time-based abilities and effects (eg, if someone goes back in time and changes the timeline, Luxord will be aware of both timelines; if someone tries to put a time spell on Luxord, he will resist it.) To emulate this, I'm giving him a few spells based on the Final Fantasy games, and an extra ability tied to his gambling.

Slow: Luxord slows a target down to half speed, deadening their reflexes.

Haste: Luxord can either speed himself or an ally up to twice their natural speed, enhancing their reflexes

Stop: Luxord can trap an individual inside his cards, effectively stopping time for them. they can break out if their will is strong enough, unless they have lost a game with Luxord, in which case they'll be trapped until Luxord has lost a game with someone else. (Mods, I won't abuse this ability; if it's too powerful we can figure out some other release condition).

Doom: Luxord's most powerful ability. Luxord places a timer on himself and a target, then sets a number of rules or victory parameters. He and the opponent then have until the time is up to "win" the game. How long the timer is and what the victory conditions are will be determined by Luxord, but they MUST be fair and winnable (otherwise, it's no game, simply unsporting!) The rules allow each player to shorten the other's time (and, sometimes, to increase it). The first to run OUT of time is the "loser." What losing entails can be anything from "all your money is now the winner's" to "the loser has to do one thing the winner says" to "the loser dies." This ability cannot be used often, and presents GREAT risk for Luxord himself (in Kingdom Hearts II, losing one of his own games results in his death.)

PLEASE NOTE as this ability has a high chance of backfiring (again, he DIED using this in II), Luxord will seldom use it, save occasionally for totally frivolous things (eg, "Demyx, I'll play Go Fish with you; loser has to make the winner a delicious sandwich"). Doom can also only be used with two players (in a battle, Luxord is more likely to Time Stop people first as part of the game, making them part of the wager so he can fight one on one)

Magic Potential: In 358/2 Days, Luxord can learn other standard spells; however, they work in a Vancian fashion, that is, once cast, they are depleted. As such, I'd like it if Luxord COULD potentially learn magic spells from other characters, but he will not start out with any other abilities, and he'll have very limited uses of those spells.

Master of Fate: Luxord can sometimes predict the probability of events in the near future (the limit is an hour). This is not 100% accurate, and requires concentration, but it leads to some interesting applications. For example, Luxord can determine the probability that the next poker hand someone draws will contain two Aces.

*Inventory: Fair Game: his weapon, a deck of cards he uses as a weapon (see "powers"). This deck can also be used as normal playing cards, or as a Tarot deck for divination, as Luxord sees fit.

Black Coat: The uniform of Organization XIII, this black coat is designed to protect against the effects of Darkness (as in, the Kingdom Hearts kind). It is possible it may provide some minor resistance to similar energies (ie, Dark Energon, etc). It also makes an excellent raincoat, and looks stylish as fuck.

*Starting Polarity: Oh, I have an idea of to whom Luxord would align... but perhaps the moderators have a different plan? Either way, it seems appropriate to leave it up to chance, does it not? My dear mods, the first move is yours.

If it helps at all, I asked the cards, and they said The Magician, so make of that what you will...

Writing Samples
*First Person Sample: [A video post. Luxord sits behind a table, twirling a card between his fingers. There's a slight smile on his face.]

Quite the motley crew of players we've gathered here, hmm? Most seem to be children of clockwork, but there's a few lowly flesh creatures here and there... I wonder what the odds are for all of us?

Really, it's all beside the point... anyway, I'm quite curious. What is your favorite game to play? I'm all ears... and if anyone would like to challenge me, I'm always up for a round or two.

*Third Person Sample: A second chance.

Luxord shuffled his cards idly as he paced the barren fields outside, pondering. He was used to alien skies, he was used to being a pawn in a greater game, used to being at the beck and call of beings whose motives were inscrutable... but he was not used to second chances. To fail at your game was to lose, pure and simple. To lose was death.

And yet...

"I've always been rather lucky, haven't I?" he said to no one in particular. "Well, cards? What do our chances look like?"

He drew a single card, this one brilliant green, emblazoned with a four pointed star---the Hierophant, a card governing the pursuit of knowledge, order, organization, community, loyalty, tradition... but also a hint of power behind the scenes, the idea of those in power manipulating a larger game.

He chuckled. "So. Keep an open mind to learning, listen to my elders, follow orders, open myself to new planes of knowledge... but also, keep an eye out for those in charge, hmm? In other words, the usual?"

At least it was a familiar set of rules...

Final Notes: I'd like to request that Luxord arrive with two Gambler Nobodies that he can command as well. If either of these should be destroyed, Luxord will not get them back.

Luxord's Powers

Most of this is just me trying to work out how the hell Luxord's powers should work. IN the games, to say the least, their operation is confusing as fuck. Of all the Organization members, his powers are the most enigmatic.

Each Organization member has an element, and Luxord's element is ostensibly Time; however, the ONLY way in which this manifests in an obvious manner is in Luxord's boss battle in Kingdom Hearts II. There, he "bets" a certain amount of time, and forces Sora to do the same. He also traps Sora's companions in a time pocket so that it becomes a one on one battle. During the battle, certain actions the player takes can reduce either his or Luxord's time by sometimes significant degrees. There is no way to get the time back.

Luxord's cards have unique capabilities. Firstly, he is able to telekinetically control them to deal damage, changing their size and shape to attack people with them; they can also move on their own. Second, he can place traps within the cards. During his "game" with Sora in KHII, Luxord creates cards that are either blank or have bombs in them; these can be flipped, and also attack on their own. He can also hide himself among his cards.

Luxord can rapidly attack Sora with dark energy, however, Sora can choose the Reaction Command "Begin Game", which will flip up a series of cards. If Sora chooses the wrong card, he is trapped in a card or a die, the correct card stuns Luxord and significantly depletes his time bar.

In 358/2 Days, like all Organization members, Luxord has pretty much the same abilities as Roxas, save for his Limit Break and his Resistance. Luxord is resistant to Time, naturally; in this case, meaning that enemies cannot level drain him. His Limit Break is similar to his attacks in II, in that he summons one or two cards, and begins essentially a roulette with them. Choosing the correct symbols deals massive damage; choosing wrong either hurts him or does nothing.

So what does this all mean?

I think Luxord's relationship to Time is more about probability than time manipulation. His use of Time more has to do with setting time limits and betting on the odds of certain events occurring, thus, for him it's more about knowing the odds. While he can clearly manipulate time to a degree (using what essentially amounts to a Doom spell on himself and Sora; using a modified Stop on Sora's companions), he seems to prefer treating it as a game, seeing what the future might hold...

But how I'd translate those abilities in an RP, I don't know.

If I were to give Luxord Final Fantasy style spells, he'd have Doom, Haste, Slow, and Stop, at the very least.
